About

Why RISE Exists

RISE grew out of lived experience and years of nonprofit and volunteer work serving some of the most vulnerable members of the community.

Growing up in generational poverty, I saw firsthand how hard people work just to stay afloat when they lack access to practical skills, economic opportunity, and supportive networks. Many individuals and families were doing everything they could, yet the systems around them often focused more on managing crisis than helping people build lasting stability and independence.

Later, through my work with several nonprofit organizations and volunteer efforts, I continued to see the same pattern repeated again and again—capable people with determination and talent, but without the tools, training, or connections needed to turn effort into stability and opportunity. At the same time, I saw local businesses, neighbors, and community organizations all working toward similar goals, but often in isolation from one another.

After spending seven years in Iowa, my husband Vincent and I were eager to return to Oregon to be closer to our grandchildren. Before moving to Iowa, we had lived just down the road in Springfield, so coming back to Lane County felt like returning home. We were grateful when Vincent was selected to serve as Creswell’s City Manager, which gave us the opportunity to become part of this close-knit and caring community.

Being here strengthened our shared desire to help bridge gaps, bring people together, and support the continued flourishing of the community.

RISE was created to help connect people, skills, and resources so individuals, families, and local businesses can thrive while strengthening the local economy from the inside out. At its heart, RISE is built on a simple belief: when people have access to the right tools, opportunities, and supportive relationships, they are capable of remarkable things.

To strengthen resilient communities by equipping individuals with practical skills, entrepreneurship opportunities, and cooperative economic pathways that increase stability, participation, and shared local prosperity.

Communities where neighbors, entrepreneurs, and local businesses work together to create strong local economies, shared opportunity, and long-term economic resilience.
